The term 'Regional Associate Minister' replaced the term 'Area Minister' because the GRR Board of Ministries through the Executive Minister assigns some Region-wide responsibilities to those serving in this role (e.g. New Church Planting, Costa Rica Covenant, ministry technologies including the GRR web site).

Area III is one of 5 'areas' of the Great Rivers Region.

The areas were developed to better serve the churches in those geographical areas by:

1. Approximately balancing the number of churches in each area

2. Limiting the larger geography of the Region (Illinois and Missouri) to smaller areas for the purpose of more local ministry gatherings.

3. Allowing field staff to choose where to have a residence in the middle of their assigned area. (With the reduction in the number of Regional Staff through attrition, service of Area I was added to the responsibilities of the Regional Associate serving Area III by reason of geographical proximity; service of Area IV was added to the responsibilities of the Regional Associate serving Area II for the same reason.)
