2005 Area III Meeting: Saturday March 18
Bloomington First Baptist Church will host the Annual Celebration of Ministry and Mission of GRR Area III Churches. 2006's theme is "Discipleship for a Purpose." Theme Scripture is from the Gospel of John 17:20, 21: "I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message..."
Your Program Board has planned at least 2 new features for this coming year's Annual Celebration/Meeting:
1. All Workshops will be available for you at least 3 times.
2. There will be an opportunity to re-visit one workshop after lunch for follow-up and discussion. See the schedule below.
We are excited about offering the following workshops:
Choosing and Using a Bible -
Martha Blumer of Cokesbury will be bringing several translations and editions of Bibles for you to look at. She will lead us in discovering what is available, what the differences are, and what might be best for you or for the one you might purchase a Bible for as a graduation or other ocassion present...or for yourself.
Natural Church Development -
Max Klinkenborg will be leading participants in discovering how this analytical process can help your church leadership discern where your church is as to its effectiveness in ministry. Join Max and discover how such a process can help your church identify the steps that need to be taken to more faithfully follow our Lord.
AWANA-
AWANA is a children's program that Pam Chambers of FBC Champaign has used to reach and bless many many children. Is your church exploring what you can to minister to the children of your community and the church? Come and discover some pointers.
LOGOS -
Our host's pastor, Spencer Gillespie, is a consultant with LOGOS. When asked if he would lead a workshop on this, he said: "I love every chance I have to talk about LOGOS." What is this program that has led to many children and youth being reached? Come, discover some pointers - if not LOGOS itself - in reaching children and youth.
Intentional Senior Ministry -
According to recent studies, many of the Baby Boomers who are reaching retirement are looking for opportunities for spiritual involvement in community. Will you be ready? That is the near future, but what about the present? Sometimes the community has few children, but many adults - especially seniors. A church that has an awareness of the needs of seniors and discerns what the needs of the seniors are in the community, can reach many of these for Christ. Come and listen to those who are even now serving in several ways to meet the needs of senior adults in their communities. The strategies vary, but the goal is the same: "As you go about your life, make disciples of all peoples..."
What is the Great Rivers Region? Why is its office called the "Resource Center?" Who is there? What difference is this part of our lives together making? Come, discover. Come, ask questions and share your ideas and concerns.
